As the government goes through the final legislative hurdles to enact offshore processing, recently arrived asylum seekers in Darwin wait to be told if they will be amongst those first transferred to Nauru or Manus island. Last week a group of protestors rallied outside one of the city’s detention centres, sending messages of support directly to detainees. The demonstration took an unexpected turn as detainees voiced their concerns themselves.
