Prime Minister Julia Gillard announced a crusade on education yesterday in hope to bring Australia into the world’s top 5 in maths, science and reading. Under the proposal teachers will undergo yearly performance reviews and there will be tighter entry restrictions for those wanting to study teaching at universities. The government will also provide funding for the disadvantaged students, with Minister Peter Garrett announcing that every Indigenous student in every school will be eligible for extra funding.
