Outrage over coalition policy to deport Sri Lankan asylum seekers
Monday, 3 September 2012

Produced by Tim Roxburgh

Story audio

The coalition’s plan to deport Sri Lankan asylum seekers has come in for harsh criticism from refugee and human rights advocates. Deputy opposition leader Julie Bishop says that many of the Sri Lankan asylum seekers are not genuine refugees. But some observers with a detailed knowledge of the situation on the ground say that the situation for many Tamils in the north of the country is still desperate.
