Getting the mental health message out to Indigenous communities
Thursday, 31 October 2013

Produced by Ellie Cooper and Annie Hastwell

Story audio

National mental health organisation Headspace last week worked with young Aboriginal people and an advertising agency to come up with a campaign to encourage young people in remote communities to seek help for mental health issues. But Tauto Sansbury, long time campaigner for a Aboriginal suicide crisis centre, says it's about more than just an awareness campaign.

Tauto says he's had no response from the State Government to his requests for funding to set up a help line and a crisis centre to deal with the escalating rate of Aboriginal youth suicide.
