Sinking nations

Produced by Samara Barr

Story audio

Many people see climate change as an issue to face in the future but for the people of Kiribati and Tuvalu it's affecting them now in a big way. If things don't improve, they face displacement from their homes. For the proud nations they struggle not only to survive but to maintain their dignity in their fight against the elements.

Australia is currently part of the Nansen Initiative which is a program organised by Norway and Switzerland that calls on other states including Australia to work towards strategies for disaster-induced displacement where people cross an international border.
