Program Producers

Shevonne Hunt
2SER

Shevonne has a bachelor of media from Macquarie University, where she also studied politics. After losing her way for several years in the world of advertising she came back to media, completing a post graduate certificate in journalism in 2006.

In the same year Shevonne started as a volunteer at 2ser, working on their weekly current affairs show Razors Edge as a presenter, reporter and producer.

While working on Razors Edge Shevonne hosted Tuesday breakfast before reluctantly handing over the show to concentrate on The Wire.

She has also had several stories broadcast on JJJ's youth current affairs show, HACK.

"The Wire is an exciting opportunity to produce truly independent current affairs," she says, "I think we really need that in Australia".

Annie Hastwell
Radio Adelaide

Annie began her career as a film reviewer for the ABC in Darwin while studying for her journalism degree and went on to work there for almost a decade as a producer and presenter. Since moving to Adelaide nine years ago she has balanced a “portfolio career”, managing current affairs at Radio Adelaide, producing features for Radio National and teaching journalism at UniSA, as well as a spot of magazine writing, and most recently working as consultant journalist for the National Science Media Centre.
She enjoys the independence of the Wire, the opportunity it gives young journalists to have a go at doing their own stories and the challenge of broadcasting to a very eclectic audience.

Catherine Zengerer
Radio Adelaide

Catherine was bitten by the radio bug when she joined a union show in 2006. A ‘political animal’, Catherine relishes being immersed in current affairs. She loves working on The Wire because every day is different, which she says suits her short attention span! She also loves the opportunity The Wire provides to cover stories not told in the mainstream.

Nursing, working for the union movement and running art exhibitions are just some of the things Catherine has turned her hand to, but the common thread has always been connecting with people in the community, and she sees radio as a natural extension of that.

Catherine joined the Adelaide Wire team in 2008 and is currently studying a Bachelor of Journalism at UniSA.

Faith Valencia
4EB

Faith commenced her radio career at a very early age playing in the studios of 4ZR in Roma, South West Queensland, where her Mum managed the local radio station. Fast forward to the late 90's and Faith was rocking out at Triple M (although she was more of a dag) and reading news on 101.1FM. Soon after completing a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Business, Faith left Australia to live overseas and start a family, while she completed her Masters. Faith discovered her love of producing news and currant affairs while living in Japan, where she produced a daily news and current affairs program for an American television network. After leaving Japan, Faith lived in Argentina for a time before returning to Australia. She’s worked for ABC television and local radio before commencing full time study of Law at QUT … and becoming the Brisbane producer for The Wire.

Contributors

Julian Tregenza
Radio Adelaide

Julian grew up in the land of the Papa-Wati in Central Australia (Pitjantjatjara Homelands) through the 1970’s. His life experiences have taken him from this, to living-it-rough in Sydney and Melbourne, to owning his own business in Adelaide.
The idea of promoting social-justice for the disadvantaged, and a social conscience for all to create a better world for future generations is what drives Julian to have different voices heard in the modern media forum.
Currently Julian is enjoying being a member of ‘The Wire’ team, as well as being the Australian Correspondent for New Zealand radio station - 95bFM, and a journalism student in Adelaide.
During his spare time, he continually fixes and rides his motorbike, pats his needy dogs, and goes fishing.
Julian’s favourite word is ‘perpetuity’ because of the rhythm of the word as it rolls out of the mouth. His main regret is that ‘perpetuity’ is such a hard word to squeeze into everyday conversation.

Pia Volk
Radio Adelaide

Pia Volk is a journalist. She works as freelancer for several magazines includingDie Zeit, Frankfurter Rundschau and Das Magazin. Pia is a drifter dedicating herself to topics on the margins of society. Fuelled by her desire to be everywhere at once, she studied geography and cultural anthropology and lived in Coro (Venezuela), Gien (Germany), Heidelberg (Germany) and Adelaide (Australia). But she found herself trapped by the confines of her own body. Finally admitting defeat, she settled down in Leipzig in 2007 and studied journalism. The following year she was awarded the Research-Award by the journalistic magazine Message. Since 2010 Pia has been living in Adelaide where she joined "The Wire"-Team. She enjoys the chaotic busy-ness, the chocolate fixes for creatvity on slow-news days and the chance to give the unheard a voice. You can find out more about her on her homepage www.piavolk.net

Indigo Wood
Radio Adelaide

Indigo started his radio career at the ripe old age of 8 years old, sitting in on the community radio show of a family friend. By 16 he’d started his own drive time radio show in his hometown, Bega, in NSW.
In 2007 Indigo graduated from a media degree at RMIT. Before starting with The Wire he spent 3 and a half years doing everything from late night graveyard radio to Executive producer of a youth based current affairs program in Melbourne. Having done a few stints with ABC Radio at home in Bega and in Hobart and Melbourne he has now settled in Melbourne. Indigo has just begun a post grad degree in Journalism.
When he’s not running around putting together radio stories you can find Indigo at a gig or a comedy show somewhere around Melbourne.
