The Greens today launched their safe climate bill, a collection of legislation aimed at providing a comprehensive alternative to the government’s ETS. But meanwhile some climate activists are saying that they’ve run out of patience with the political process, and protestors invaded two mines in the Illawarra region on the weekend. In this story- Greens Senator Christine Milne, Professor of Public Ethics at the Centre for Applied Philosopy and Ethics, and climate activist Gabrielle Lauder.

The decision to award the nobel peace prize to President Barack Obama has drawn a diverse range of comments from support to complete rejection. Former foreign minister Alexander Downer labeled the move as a farce whilst Greens Leader Bob Brown has applauded it. Obama has promised significant change in the Middle East and scaled back the militaristic rhetoric towards the Muslim world. However so far not much has actually changed on the ground. Up to a third of the herbal medicine Ginkgo Biloba sold in Australia might be adulterated, or “spiked” according to recent Government tests. However the Therapeutic Goods Administration appears to be doing little about it, and refuses to reveal the offending brands. Public Health expert Dr Ken Harvey has been fighting the TGA to release these names for the past year, with no luck.
