Four young men were arrested yesterday for allegedly plotting a terrorist attack on Sydney’s Holsworthy military barracks. The domestic abuse legislation in South Australia is not up to scratch and Adelaide University students are taking a stand. In a visual display, thousands of clothes hung to the trees to represent the one in three women who will experience domestic violence and the one in five women who will suffer from sexual abuse. The day was about creating awareness and emphasising the importance of early education. Australian Aid to East Timor is being swallowed up by consultants, study missions, reports and recommendations, according to East Timor’s President Jose Ramos Horta. Mr Horta has urged the Australian Government to review their policy on aid to East Timor; he even claims that poverty levels in Timor are on the rise despite billions in aid. The debate surrounding climate change has, until now, focused on the merits or otherwise of the government’s proposed Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme for Australian businesses and the environment. Little attention has been given to the very real threat of climate change and its consequences; disease, poverty and displacement, faced by our Pacific neighbours. Island communities were today given the chance to voice their concerns about climate change at the annual Pacific Islands Forum. The Wire’s Hannah Chipperfield reports. Since last year, motorcycle gangs have been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Following South Australia's lead, all states except Victoria and the ACT have passed anti-bikie laws. These laws mean that the basis of bikie culture, the motorcycle club, has become illegal. It's caused an outcry both inside and outside the motorcycle community and today bikies put their cause to an unusually high profile venue.
