With Anzac news everywhere, one of the most controversial war veteran stories surrounds the Raise A Glass campaign. $1.2 million has already been raised for Legacy and the National Returned Services League, in a campaign urging Australians to drink VB, and raise money for war veterans. Beer is considered by many to be ingrained in Australian culture. But some are also concerned encouraging alcohol consumption in the midst of increased concern for binge-drinking, especially amongst war veterans, is irresponsible. Papua New Guinea's National Court has extended a restraining order to stop negotiations over the royalties from a natural gas project. Customary landowner groups sought the order, arguing the people chosen to represent them at the talks are not genuine landowners. Exxon are hoping to commercialise gas fields and want the issue resolved in the next couple of months. Interview with PNG resource management expert, Dr Colin Filer.

The Australian Democrats have started rebuilding after recently falling into political oblivion. The party was dealt disastrous results in the federal election but the Democrats have high hopes of again gaining the political spotlight in the Senate. Animal rights group PETA has challenged people to go vegetarian for a week as part of International Earth Day, which was on Wednesday. PETA say eating vegetarian makes a positive impact on greenhouse gas emissions produced by the meat industry. Advertisements continuously tell us to "get more pork on our fork",and "red meat makes us smarter" so today we're hearing from the vego point of view. Interview with Glen Martin from the Vegetarian Society.
