Oxfam normally works in the international aid area but since last year they have been helping the small Aboriginal community of Narrajin, south of Perth, grapple with tragically high suicide statistics. They are now calling on the WA government to continue that support by funding services within rather than outside the community. It's been a long time coming but this week the Kenbi or Cox Peninsula land claim, close to Darwin, was finally resolved. The Northern Land Council's Kym Hill says it will mean some fishing restrictions and probably some new Larrakia tourist enterprises.

Australia is one of the last habitats left for the endangered dugong and several species of marine turtles. However Indigenous groups in the country’s north are working in partnership with local communities, researchers and government agencies to ensure their survival. The work of some of these groups is featured in a new DVD called “Message Disk”, produced as part of a campaign by the North Australian Indigenous Land and Sea Management Alliance (NAILSMA). CEO, Joe Morrison explained to The Wire what the biggest threats to the dugong and sea turtles are right now…
