Water Deadlock Resolved?

South Australians in particular are waiting today for the outcome of the Council of Australian Governments meeting. It’s happening in Adelaide and as we go to air the premiers are still behind closed doors wrangling over water. Until Victoria signs up to the Federal water agreement South Australia is left seriously short of the precious stuff. But Local Democrats MP Sandra Kanck has come up with a lateral solution to the deadlock.

He’s asked foreign companies to hand over 51% control to local owners, and also to lower their prices so that locals can afford to live. The ABC's staff union says there may be job losses if recommendations from an internal review lead to less in-house television production. The ABC union Secretary Graeme Thomas told Catherine Zengerer about the review. Lecturer in Film and Television Production from the Univeristy of Canberra, Michael Sergi, also outlines his concerns about outsourcing TV production in Australia.

Indigenous radio, like most community radio, runs on a shoestring – but it’s an incredibly important service if you live out bush. Last week indigenous broadcasters were given a boost when almost three quarters of a million dollars in grants were allocated to the services. Jessica Whiting spoke with Bonnie Deegan, Chairperson of Radio PRK in Western Australia, and Jim Remedio, Manager of CAAMA Radio, about their reactions to the news.

Tohu wines is the only indigenous owned wine company in New Zealand and Maori culture is very much part of their marketing campaign. Managing Director James Wheeler is in Australia at the moment to launch a cheeky little sauvignon blanc called Kono, which means food basket. He says Toho has a great chance to tell the Maori story of the land while selling wine.
