Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has thrown his country into diplomatic turmoil with the controversial expulsion of the Australian appointed high commissioner Patrick Cole. Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer has officially spoken out against the move, emphasising the importance of Australia's continued involvement in getting the country back onto it's feet. Bruce Haigh, former diplomat to Indonesia thinks that the Solomon Island Prime Minister is pushing towards a deeper Australian integration into the local community and culture. Meanwhile, Dr Satish Chand, director of the pacific public policy at ANU says Australia will need to stay in the region for a while longer yet

A sense of desperation has overcome Hungarians this week, after it was revealed through a secret government video tape that their prime minister has been lying to the country for some time now. Socialist leader Ferenc Gyurscany has had to answer to the thousands of protestors storming the streets of Budapest this week, after it was revealed he covered up a large budget deficit to ensure his party won another term in office.It’s not a good sign for the government, as October elections loom closer. University of New South Wales Director of European Studies, Gunter Minnerup, has been in contact with several colleagues in the Hungarian capital and describes the feelings of the locals. He believes the lies reflect the politically corrupt culture of Eastern Europe.

Back in August 2004 the Ngarrindjeri people welcomed back the remains of 79 of their ancestors – their old people – who had been held for many years in the Museum of Victoria. Tomorrow morning the remains of 25 Ngarrindjeri old people will be put to rest in the first of a series of burials in two sites within the Coorong in South Australia. Tom Trevorrow, Chairperson for the Ngarrindjeri Heritage Committee spoke about what this will mean for his people and their land and waters.

We heard a lot about IAN MELROSE last year around Anzac day – he was the mysterious millionaire who commissioned a series of television ads which featured old diggers being strongly critical of the Australian government taking too much oil revenue from East Timor.He’s at it again – a new series of ads hit the screen in about three weeks time but this time the cause is independence for West Papua. In the lead up to the release of the new campaign Ian Melrose is part of a roadshow going around the country raising public awareness of how West Papua came to be under Indonesian control in the first place. The key incident which the ads will highlight was the 1969 referendum which led to Indonesia taking control.

Youth suicide has become a mainstream cause these days, with research and support groups springing up all over the place. One of the oldest and best known is Insearch and they're having a big birthday tonight, with big guests like Prime Minister John Howard, Bert Newton, radio guru Alan Jones and the cast of 'Priscilla: the musical' in the guest list. The charity will celebrate 21years of supporting young people going through times of emotional stress.
