As the world readies itself to face the reality of global climate change those in the alternative energy source field are desperately scrambling to assure public and governmental support for their particular fuel. Recently the debate in Australia has centred on the prospect of going nuclear but this week saw a worldwide conference on Wind Power held in Adelaide restore some of the balance. However, one energy alternative, which seems to have slipped by the wayside, is solar power. Canadian Environmentalist, Doctor David Suzuki and Professor Geoff Smith of the University of Technology in Sydney believe that the three alternatives of Nuclear, Wind and Solar need to be scrutinised.

Attorney general Philip Ruddock has today added to the scaremongering surrounding this week's successful native title claim by the Nyoongar people over metropolitan Perth. He says it could mean non indigenous people will be denied access to national parks and open urban spaces. Indigenous academic, author and Professor of Law at the University of Technology in Sydney, Larissa Berendt says far from being a threat to land owners, the claim should be seen as an opportunity to involve indigenous people in community decisions, and that as the decision was made on fact not on law a successful appeal is unlikely.

Almost all the ABC workers are on strike over conditions and wages problems. We tried to find out whether their problems are worth missing our daily fix of public broadcasting for.

Mark Bowling saw some turbulent years in Indonesia as foreign corresopondent for the ABC between 1998 and 2002. Yet as he was doing edgy reports from East timor and other crisis spots, his wife and children were in the background dealing with life in a foreign troubled country.
